Sign Up Today for 2011 Fall Kids Fitness Challenge

The fall edition of the Kids Fitness Challenge will take place November 14-18 2011. All Massachusetts elementary and middle schools are eligible.

You can sign up your school today by clicking on the Register tab in the Kids Fitness Challenge menu on the left of the screen and entering your school's information.

New for this year - Led by faculty and staff with expertise in exercise, nutrition and wellness, GoKids Boston is a unique youth fitness, outreach and research center at U Mass Boston. GoKids makes fitness fun and empower kids to grow up healthy. This fall, GoKids' faculty and staff will be on hand to answer any question your team may have as you design your fitness challenge program. To submit a question, please e-mail the program director. Four Bay State Schools Take Home $500 Grants

The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation announced today the winners of the spring 2011 Kids Fitness Challenge. The four schools chosen were:

Highlands Elementary School (Braintree, MA)
Memorial School (West Springfield, MA)
Rochester Memorial School (Rochester, MA)
Trinity Christian Academy of Cape Cod (Barnstable, MA)

Each school will be awarded a $500 grant to be used to support the institution’s health and physical education programs.

This spring’s edition of the Kids Fitness Challenge, held May 31 to June 3, included almost 30,000 participants from 75 schools across Massachusetts.

The Bay State Games will hold the next Kids Fitness Challenge in November.

Almost 30,000 Students Taking Part in Challenge

The spring edition of the Kids Fitness Challenge kicks off today, May 31, and runs through Friday, June 3. Almost 30,000 Massachusetts elementary and middle school students will take part in the event.

Thank you to all the schools that have committed to spending a portion of their school day emphasizing the importance of health and fitness with their students.

We will have a drawing in the next few weeks to determine the four schools that will each receive a $500 grant to be used to fund the winners' health and physical education departments.

Good luck to every school and thank you for participating.

Registration is now open for the 2011 spring edition of the Kids Fitness Challenge. All Massachusetts elementary and middle schools are eligible.

You can also download a brochure which you can either fax to 781-932-3441 or mail to the Bay State Games, 55 Sixth Road, Woburn, MA 01801.

Dates Set for Spring 2011 Kids Fitness Challenge

The next edition of the Kids Fitness Challenge will be held May 31 to June 3. As always, field days and other events already planned for the month of May and June can be used to as part of the Challange.

More information will be posted in the coming months, and brochures will be mailed to Massachusetts schools in late May as registration is set to open on April 1.

Boston University's "Small Feet, Big Steps" Workshop Participates in Challenge with Roger Clap Students

Boston University's graduate-level community relations students put on an interactive workshop called, “Small Feet, Big Steps,” to educate Dorchester’s Roger Clap Elementary School about the benefits of staying physically fit and eating right during the Kids Fitness Challenge this week.

The visiting BU students participated in several activities with the Roger Clap kids including soccer drills and an exciting game of "Freeze Dance" (Click for video). Check out the press release for more information.
