Over its more than 25 years, the Bay State Games baseball competition has become one of the commonwealth's premier showcases with a successful history of attracting numerous scouts from both the college and professional ranks. A long list of Bay State Games baseball alumni have gone on to play Division 1, 2, and 3 college baseball with many going on to play professionally. At the first day of the 2008 Bay State Summer Games baseball competition, more than 50 scouts from college and professional teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, University of Rhode Island, Virginia Tech, Babson College, Columbia University, Navy, St. Johns University, Harvard University and Dartmouth College are expected to be on hand. COMPETITION HIGHLIGHTS:

•  The Bay State Games will be held on the campus of Bentley College.

• All teams will be scheduled to play a minimum of five (5) games with a maximum of six (6).

DIVISIONS

Scholastic only. Athletes must be in the 9th, 10th or 11th grades as of the 2007-2008 academic year. Athletes must be under the age of 19 as of June 14, 2008.

ELIGIBILITY

To qualify for a region, an athlete must be ONE of the following:

•  A full-time resident within the region for 30 days prior to the date of tryouts.

•  A full-time student at a recognized academic institution in the region.

REGION

•  Athletes who are eligible for more than one region may only tryout for ONE team.

SPORT SPECIFIC RULES

Authorities from the Bay State Games and the Massachusetts chapter of American Legion Baseball met to establish guidelines that would minimize competition conflicts between the two organizations. Pursuant to this meeting, the following guidelines are now in effect.

•  To avoid as much conflict with the Legion Baseball playoffs as possible, the Bay State Games baseball competition will be held July 7-10. Friday, July 11 will be used as a rain date for the tournament.

•  No more than three (3) players from the same high school baseball team can play for the same Bay State Games team. Per American Legion rules, no more than two (2) players from the same American Legion Baseball team can play for ANY Bay State Games team regardless of age. Schools are determined as of the 2007-2008 academic year.

•  Legion Baseball coaches will no longer give out release forms to individual players. Bay State Games coaches will give release forms to players selected for the finals to be signed by the player's coach and then sent to the Department Chairman for approval. All American Legion players require a waiver regardless of age.

•  Bay State Games rosters consist of 25 players. Players who have a conflict between Bay State Games and an American Legion game will be released from their Bay State Games event in time to make their Legion game. American Legion has determined that players who miss a Legion game for a Bay State Games game will be suspended for the remainder of the season.

•  Pitchers will be limited to no more than seven (7) innings for the tournament. Bay State Games and American Legion coaches will discuss pitching schedules for all players.

TRYOUTS

•  A minimum of three (3) tryouts will be held between June 14–22.

•  Athletes must participate in a minimum of two (2) tryouts to be considered for the team. Bay State Games coaches do not have the authority to waive the two tryout rule.
