Eligibility

An athlete must meet one of the following criteria:

  • A full time resident of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or New York
  • A full time student of a Massachusetts academic institution
  • A registered member of a baton twirling club in Massachusetts. Athletes using the club membership for eligibility may not also be a member of a non-Massachusetts club

Athletes will be put into divisions based on their age the day of competition.

  • Cadet: Ages 9 & under
  • Junior: Ages 10-12
  • Scholastic: Ages 13-15
  • Open: Ages 16-18
  • Masters: Ages 19+

*Ages are based on the day of competition

Athletes can enter up to 5 solo events

  • 1 Baton (Novice, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)
  • 2 Baton (Beginner, Advanced)
  • 3 Baton (All enter as Advanced)
  • Basic March (Beginner, Advanced)
  • X-Strut (Beginner, Advanced)

Team Events

  • Large and small events are offered in Cadet, Junior, Scholastic, Open, and Masters divisions
  • Small events are limited to 4 - 8 members. The large team are 9 members and up
  • Divisions may be combined by Sports Coordinator if warranted
  • Dance Twirl Team music will be chosen by the coach; Twirl Team music will be to standard march music.
  • Team age divisions are computed by an average age of the team members as of the competition date
  • Team coaches must fill out the Baton Twirling Team Application

Duet Events

  • Duet events will be offered in Cadet, Junior, Scholastic, Open, and Masters Divisions
  • Age divisions are computed by an average age of the duet members as of the competition date
  • Each duet member should include this event on the general application for individuals and indicate their duet partner's name

Order of Events

  • Teams will perform first and solo events will follow
  • All events should conclude around noon and awards will follow

  • An athlete does not need to be a member of a national baton twirling organization 
  • No double entering allowed
  • No gymnastics allowed
  • Novice X-Strut enters Beginner Level 
  • Intermediate X-Strut enters Advanced Level
  • Novice 2 Baton enters Beginner Level 
  • Intermediate 2 Baton Enters Advanced Level 
  • 3 Baton is all Advanced Level - timing is 30secs to 2:00min 
  • There is only one level for Duets
  • All NBTA Rules apply, with the exception of the competition age
