Registration Deadline: Thursday, July 6, 2023 

Late Registrations and Walk Up Entries: No late or walk-up entries will be accepted.


Eligibility

An athlete must meet one of the following criteria:

  • A full time resident of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, New York, or Connecticut
  • A full time student of a recognized academic institution in Massachusetts
  • A registered member of a judo club in Massachusetts. 
  • If an athlete uses this eligibility rule to enter the competition, he or she cannot also be a member of a non-Massachusetts club, and the club must be the athlete's exclusive contact within the sport

All athletes who are members of USA Judo, USJA, and USJF are welcome to participate in the Bay State Games judo competitions.

Schedule

8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.: Senior & Veteran Check-In & Weigh-In

9:30 a.m.: Senior & Veteran Competition

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: Junior Check-In & Weigh-In 

12:00 p.m.: Junior Competition

Format

  • Divisions with four or less competitors will compete in round robin
  • Divisions with five or more competitors will be modified double elimination,
  • All matches consist of one three minute period (except for men's brown and black belt which consist of one four minute period)
  • The golden score rule will be in effect (2 minute time limit)

Rules

  • All divisions are governed by modified I.J.F rules 
  • Arm locks are not permitted in any division (except men's brown and black belt, senior women, and veterans divisions)
  • Chokes are not permitted in divisions with athletes age 5 to 12 and 60+

2024 State Games of America

The 2023 Bay State Games Judo competition serves as a qualifier for the 2024 State Games of America. All medalists (gold, silver, and bronze) in this event will qualify for the 2024 State Games of America in San Diego, CA.


The 2024 State Games of America will be hosted by the California State Games.
