Bay State Games Presents 2024 Berkshire Hero Award

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (January 30, 2024)
– Bay State Games presented the Berkshire Hero Award to a staunch supporter of the Bay State Winter Games on January 27. The 2024 award recipient is Howard Herman, Sports Editor and Columnist for the Berkshire Eagle Newspaper in Pittsfield. Howard Herman joined the sports staff of the Berkshire Eagle in 1987. Early in his career, he covered Bay State Summer Games in Boston in basketball, baseball, soccer, wrestling and other sports where Berkshire County athletes were playing. Since 1987, Howard has covered all sports in the winter games including alpine and Nordic skiing, figure skating and master’s ice hockey.
Outside of covering Bay State Games, Herman covers all high school sports in Berkshire county. He has been to five Division III Men's Basketball Final Fours covering Williams College, the NCAA men's basketball final four when UMass Amherst participated and The Red Sox World Series championships in 2004, 2007, and 2013.
Howard is a longtime supporter of the Bay State Winter Games in Berkshire County and is truly deserving of this award.
The Berkshire Hero Award was created in 2008 to recognize individuals, businesses, facilities, and organizations within Berkshire County that go above and beyond to ensure that the Bay State Winter Games are a success.
