BSG Executive Director Kevin Cummings Receives Highest National Honor from NCSG
The Bay State Games (BSG) is proud to announce that Executive Director Kevin Cummings has been awarded the Jim Hallihan Legacy Award, the highest honor given by the National Congress of State Games (NCSG). The award was presented at the 2025 SportsTravel Awards during the 2025 NCSG Annual Symposium held in conjunction with the TEAMS Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
The Jim Hallihan Legacy Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the development and betterment of the State Games movement across the United States. Kevin Cummings' decades of service and leadership have made a lasting impact on both the Bay State Games and the NCSG community.
Cummings is currently serving his third term as President of the National Congress of State Games, a role he previously held from 2005–2007 and 2023–2025. He has served on the NCSG Board of Directors for over 20 years, including 12 years as Vice President, and chaired the State Games of America (SGA) Committee from 2013 through 2024. Under his leadership, the SGA host city selection and contract process has been conducted for eight locations across the country.
Since 2007, Cummings has represented NCSG on the United States Olympic Committee’s Affiliated Organization Council. He has also played a key role at the TEAMS Conference for over a decade, promoting opportunities for states to launch or expand State Games programs.
Beyond his work with NCSG, Kevin’s contributions to the broader sports and event management industries are extensive. A 1983 graduate of Boston College, he has worked on two Olympic Games (1996 in Atlanta and 2002 in Salt Lake City), and has long served as a consultant for major events including the Boston Marathon, New York City Marathon, Falmouth Road Race, and others. He has been a game day statistician for the NFL/New England Patriots since the mid-1980s.
