FIGURE SKATING

An athlete must meet at least one of the following guidelines:

• A full-time resident of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.
• A full-time student at an academic institution in Massachusetts.
• A registered member of a figure skating club in Massachusetts. Athletes entering under this eligibility can not be apart of a non Massachusetts club as well.

Athletes who are Massachusetts residents, full-time students in MA, or a member of a MA skating club will be classified as a participant from Massachusetts for the purpose of distribution of invitations for the State Games of America.

Athletes from Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont, will be classified in the competition as a participant from their state of residency for the purpose of distribution of invitations for the State Games of America per eligibility Rule 4.

Age

Athletes must be a minimum of age 5 by the first date of competition to be eligible. 

• ALL USFS EVENTS WILL BE JUDGED USING THE CJS SCORING SYSTEM
• Athletes may skate in only one level per event.
• Where offered, athletes may choose Excel (Restricted) OR Well Balanced (Unrestricted) but NOT both
• Athletes may move up one level for both Freestyle and Short Program. This applies to USFS events only. 
• Male and female athletes will not be combined in any event or division.
• Athletes can enter up to three events

PLEASE NOTE: Please Note: A number of events have different timeframes for event requirements and some events have been added or eliminated. The USFS portion of the 2027 Bay State Games Figure Skating competition will follow the element, time and event requirements in effect per the current USFS rule book / website which can be found at https://usfigureskating.org/sports/2025/8/12/competition-program-requirements.aspx

• Snowplow Sam – Basic 6 Program with music
• Aspire 1 – 4 Program with music
• Adult 1-6 Program with music
• Snowplow Sam – Basic 6 Elements
• Compulsory Moves Level 1-8

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

• Special Olympics Singles Free Skate 1-4
• Special Olympics Badge 2-12

USFS EVENTS

• Pre-Preliminary: Free Skate Excel of Well Balanced
• Preliminary: Free Skate Excel Plus or Well Balanced
• Pre Juvenile: Free Skate Excel Plus or Well Balanced
• Juvenile: Freeskate and/or Short Program. Excel, Excel Plus or Well Balanced
• Intermediate: Freeskate and/or Short Program. Excel, Excel Plus or Well Balanced
• Novice: Freeskate and/or Short Program. Excel or Well Balanced
• Junior: Freeskate and/or Short Program. Excel or Well Balanced
• Senior: Freeskate and/or Short Program. Excel or Well Balanced
• Adult: Freeskate Gold, Silver, Bronze, Beginner, High Beginner
• Master: Freeskate Senior, Junior, Novice, Intermediate

ISI EVENTS

• Freestyle Level 1 – 9 and Adult
• Artistic Solo Level 1-9 and Adult
• Open Freestyle Bronze, Silver, Gold Platinum

Bay State Games can change the level of a registered participant until the registration deadline. Bay State Games cannot add additional entrants once the competition is full. Athletes should register now at their current level. Once an athlete is registered, if they pass a test and move up a level, the athlete must contact the Bay State Games office at 781-932-6555 or via email at info@baystategames.org so we can update their registration and place them in the appropriate level. All levels will be determined as of TBD.

Athletes must list their coaches name and email address on their application. YOU MUST LIST THE COACHES NAME AS HE OR SHE IS REGISTERED WITH ISI or USFSA. Please check for maiden or married names and verify the correct name with your coach before submitting your application.

All coaches must be compliant as of the first date of competition. Coaches who are not compliant will not receive their credential and not be allowed to enter the competition area. 

Athlete Pizza Party

All participants will be invited to attend an athlete party during the competition weekend. This will include food, the skating club banner contest and other surprises. The party will be held to maximize the number of athletes that can attend. Each participants id card will gain them entry to the party. Additional details to follow.

Banner Contest

Theme: TBD

Each skating club is encouraged to bring a banner to the competition. Banners will be on display throughout the duration of the competition on Sunday, February 14 and will be judged by the end of the day. The clubs with the top-three banners will receive awards at the athlete party. All banners must be limited to no more than 3 feet high and 10 feet wide. Banners can include lights but must be battery operated.

Cinematic Images will be the official photo & video provider for this year's event.

Cinematic Images, a Professional Figure Skating Photographer, will be taking photos and video of each skater at the competition.

The Digital Photo package gives you all of the edited photos that we took of your skater in that event. 

There are typically anywhere from 30 - 100 photos depending on the level of your skater... The more elements they can perform the more we have to photograph. Per USFS we must silence the music on your video

Due to limited available ice time at the Williams College Skating rink, the Bay State Skate Show will not be held in 2027. Ice time normally reserved for the show will be used to continue the competition to allow as many skaters as possible the opportunity to compete in the 2027 Bay State Winter Games Figure Skating competition.

 The 2027 Bay State Games figure skating competition will serve as a qualifier for the 2028 State Games of America. 

All medalists (gold, silver and bronze) will qualify for the 2028 State Games of America to be held July 14-18, 2028 in Colorado Springs, CO.
