Girls Volleyball Showcase took place Saturday, July 13 - Sunday, July 14 at Game On in Fitchburg

Saturday, July 13

Game 1: Central vs. Metro:

Central starts the day hot with two wins over Metro, 25-15 and 25-20, in the weekend's first game.


Game 2: Southeast vs. Northeast

Southeast sweeps Northeast, 25-16 in the first and 25-21 in the second. Northeast's slow start costs them an early win.


Game 3: Central vs. Coastal

Central continues the strong start with another sweep against Coastal, 25-18 and 25-22. Coastal improves as the sets progress but cannot close out the game.


Game 4: Southeast vs. West

West's first game of the tournament is a back-and-forth battle with Southeast. Unfortunately, West falls short in both sets, 25-21 and 25-20, as Southeast remains undefeated.


Game 5: Northeast vs. Metro

A dominant bounce-back win for Northeast against Metro, 25-12 and 25-21.


Game 6: West vs. Central

West showed a dominant performance in the first set against the Central team, who entered the game undefeated. The teams split sets, with West taking the first, 25-21, and Central winning the second, 25-13.


Game 7: Coastal vs. Metro

Metro's struggles continue as Coastal wins both sets, 25-9 and 25-19.


Game 8: Central vs. Southeast

The top two teams clash in a back-and-forth match, with Southeast earning the win against Central in two close sets, 25-24 and 25-19.


Game 9: Coastal vs. Northeast

Coastal comes out on top, winning 27-25 in the first set and 25-20 in the second.


Game 10: West vs. Metro

West secures two more wins, sweeping Metro, 25-15 and 25-14.


Game 11: Southeast vs. Coastal

A thrilling game as the top seed suffers its first loss. Coastal scrapes by with a win in the first set, 25-23, but falls to Southeast in the second, 27-25. Despite the loss, Southeast remains poised to dominate in pool play.


Game 12: Northeast vs. West

In Saturday's final game, teams split sets with nail-biting scores. West wins the first set, 26-24. Northeast fights back to win the second, 28-26.


Sunday, July 14
Game 13: Coastal vs. West

Sunday starts with an exciting game between two strong teams. Coastal wins the first set, 25-16. West bounces back to take the second set, 25-21. Both teams await seeding results.


Game 14: Central vs. Northeast

Northeast comes out strong, sweeping Central with scores of 25-20 in both sets. Both teams await seeding results.


Game 15: Southeast vs. Metro

Southeast sweeps Metro, proving too strong with scores of 25-12 and 25-14.


Quarterfinal 1: #3 Northeast vs. #6 Metro

The third-seed Northeast defeats the sixth-seed Metro, 25-12. Northeast moves on to face the second seed Coastal.


Quarterfinal 2: #4 West vs. #5 Central

Central's earlier loss places them as the fifth seed against fourth-seed West. Both teams have similar records, splitting series on Saturday. West comes out on top, 25-21.


Semifinal 1: #2 Coastal vs. #3 Northeast

In the semifinals, teams play best of three sets. Northeast wins the first set, 25-19, but Coastal rallies to win 25-15 and closes with a 15-11 victory to advance to the Gold Game.


Semifinal 2: #1 Southeast vs. #4 West

West upsets the number one seed Southeast. Southeast takes the first set, 25-18. West claims the second and third sets, 25-17 and 15-12.


Bronze Medal Game: #3 Northeast vs. #1 Southeast

Southeast sweeps the Bronze game against Northeast, 25-19 and 25-13, taking home the bronze medal for the 2024 Bay State Games Girls Volleyball Showcase.


Gold Medal Game: #2 Coastal vs. #4 West

Underdogs West fall short against the dominant Coastal team. Coastal wins the Gold Game in two sets, 25-10 and 25-14. West takes home the silver medal, while Coastal claims the gold for the 2024 Bay State Games Girls Volleyball Showcase.

WOBURN – Pat Connaughton (Basketball/Baseball), Brian Harris (Basketball/Softball Coach), and Ada Korkhin (Pistol Shooting) have been selected for induction into the 2025 Bay State Games' Hall of Fame. The inductees will receive their award at a pre-game ceremony at Fenway Park on Friday, June 27 prior to the Red Sox game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Bay State Games Hall of Fame was created to recognize past participants who have gone on to prestigious and successful athletic careers, as well as former and current coaches, officials, sports organizers, and volunteers who have made significant contributions to the organization throughout its 38-year history. Past inductees among the over 60 previous honorees include the NBA’s Dana Barros (`06), Tom Thibodeau ('17) and the late Reggie Lewis (`02); WNBA’s Rebecca Lobo (’03), the NHL’s Bill Guerin ('09) and Keith Yandle ('14); Major League Baseball’s Carlos Pena ('11) and Rich Hill ('13); Olympians Nancy Kerrigan ('07), Jim Pedro (’04) and Bill Cleary ('14) as well as US Paralympic Gold Medalist Joe Lemar (’15). “The Hall of Fame has been a great way to recognize the many Bay State Games alumni who have gone on to prestigious athletic careers as well as those organizers and officials who have contributed to our success over the last four decades” said Kevin Cummings, the Bay State Games Executive Director. “It is an honor to recognize this year’s class that includes an NBA Champion, a US Olympic team member and a volunteer coach of over thirty years”. PAT CONNAUGHTON - BASKETBALL/BASEBALL Pat Connaughton was a two sport Bay State Games athlete in both Basketball and Baseball. In high school at St. John’s Prep, he earned the Massachusetts Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year Award. After an illustrious basketball and baseball career at the University of Notre Dame, Pat led the Irish to its only Men’s Basketball Conference Championship in the ACC. Pat was selected in the MLB draft in 2014 and NBA draft in 2015. In 2021 he became an NBA champion with the Milwaukee Bucks. Beyond the court, Pat is Co-Founder and CEO of real estate development company, Three Leaf Partners, headquartered in Milwaukee and he started the Pat Connaughton Foundation in 2016 based on the pillars of - courts, clinics, and character. BRIAN HARRIS - BASKETBALL / SOFTBALL COACH A lifelong resident of Somerville, Brian has volunteered as a Bay State Games coach in both girls basketball and softball for over thirty years. Brian is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Harvard Law School. He spent over three decades serving at the Somerville District Court. Brian is involved with several youth organizations and serves as board president of the Somerville YMCA. Brian has built an extraordinary coaching legacy across high school basketball and softball, amassing over 500 varsity wins and earning numerous Coach of the Year honors. ADA KORKHIN - PISTOL SHOOTING Ada Korkhin from Brookline, competed at the Bay State Games in Pistol Shooting. She also served as a Bay State Games Ambassador at Brookline High School. At the age of 14, Ada started competing internationally with trips that included events in Buenos Aires, South Korea and Egypt. She has medaled at multiple world and US events. At the age of nineteen, Ada made her Olympic debut as a member of the US Pistol Shooting team in Paris. She is currently a member of the Ohio State University shooting team where she is studying biochemistry. On May 5, Jenny Pizza was awarded the Kristian Rose Memorial Scholarship at the 2025 McCormack Department of Sport Management Awards Banquet. Jenny is a freshman at UMass Amherst. She is originally from New Jersey and chose to attend UMass to pursue her passion for sports and management at the Isenberg School of Management. On campus, Jenny serves as a manager for the UMass Women's Basketball team and is active in Women in Sports Management (WISM). Her dream is work for the New York Yankees and hopes to work toward gender equality in every aspect of the sports industry. The Kristian Rose Memorial Scholarship was established by Bay State Games and UMass Amherst in memory of Kristian Rose, who was tragically killed in an auto accident during his Bay State Games internship. This scholarship is open to Sport Management students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with preference given to students with community service experience, and financial need.
