College Admissions 101 - Ending Your Sports Career After High School
We asked our 2024 Summer Interns to give advice on a variety of topics for student-athletes entering the college admission process. Next up, we asked Annie Pratt about looking a colleges without wanting to continue playing sports.
Q: What school do you go to?
AP: I go to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Q: Why did you choose your school?
AP: I chose to go to UMass Amherst because of Isenberg and the sport management program that is offered there.
Q: What factors influenced your decision?
AP: One factor that influenced my decision was the campus and the Sport Management program. Isenberg having such prestigious programs was a big influence on my decision.
Q: Did you consider playing sports in college or only look at schools based on academics/campus fit?
AP: I looked at schools based on just academic and campus fit.
Q: What advice do you have for an incoming college student or someone going through the process of choosing?
Choose what feels right and feels like the best fit! When you’re at the right college, everything will fall into place. Start participating in intramurals or club teams if you have an interest in continuing to play sports!
Q: Now that you have been in school, what are some things you wish you knew beforehand?
I wish I knew that everyone was just as nervous as me to be starting college and that we were all in the same situation! Everyone is really eager to make new friends and get to know each other.
