College Admissions 101 - Going to College with Your Siblings

November 7, 2024

We asked our 2024 Summer Interns to give advice on a variety of topics for student-athletes entering the college admission process. Last up, we asked Michael Maiava about going to school with his brothers.

Q: What school do you go to?

MM: I go to Tufts University

Q: Why did you choose your school?

MM: I specifically chose Tufts for the education as well as an opportunity to continue playing football.

Q: What factors influenced your decision?

MM: Some factors that influenced my decision to go to Tufts were the opportunities that can come with going to a school at Tufts.

Q: Did you plan on going to school with your siblings?

MM: Yes, it was always a dream of ours to go to college together as well as play college football with each other.

Q: What is it like going to school and living with your brothers?

MM: I enjoyed my time going to school with my brothers, I can’t really compare what it’s like going to school by myself since I’ve never experienced it before. But, it’s definitely been a unique experience growing up here and finding ourselves in different ways.

Q: What advice do you have for an incoming college student or someone going through the process of choosing?

MM: With recruiting today, I would advise athletes to be patient in the decisions that they make as well as know your reasons for going to a school that is best for you.

Q: Now that you have been in school, what are some things you wish you knew beforehand?

MM: Something that I wish I knew before going to Tufts was the importance of office hours as well as getting to know other students that aren’t on your team.
