Baseball Showcase took place Tuesday, July 6 - Thursday, July 8 at Monan park at BC High School


Tuesday, July 6
Game 1 
Metro – 17
Coastal – 8 

Coastal came out of the gates quickly, putting up five runs in the first inning of the game. Metro clawed its way back into the game thanks to brothers Ronan and Gavin Donahue, who both hit triples in the fourth inning to make it a 7-7 game in the fourth. Metro exploded for nine runs in the last two innings of the game to cruise to a 17-8 victory. Ronan Donahue finished the game 4-5 with a triple and three runs scored. 

Game 2
Southeast – 4
Northeast – 7 

Northeast started the game with the first four batters reaching base and scoring, making it a 4-0 game after the top of the first. Northeast’s Jack Iannibelli quieted the Southeast bats, giving up two earned runs and striking out five in four innings of work. Northeast cruised to a 7-4 victory over Southeast. Northeast’s Eric Paradis was 3-3 with a triple. 

Game 3
Central – 9
Northeast – 3 

Will Parker started his BSG Baseball debut with a lead-off home run in the first inning of the game, taking an early 1-0 lead. Northeast answered back with Chis Faraca’s RBI single to tie the game 1-1. Central scored five runs in the next three innings to put the game out of reach for the Northeast squad, winning the game 9-3. Will Parker went 3-3 with a home run and a double. 

Game 4
West – 5
Coastal – 5 

West took an early 2-0 lead during the first two innings thanks to a pair of Coastal mishaps in the infield. West tacked on three more runs to make it a 5-0 game after the top of sixth. Coastal came roaring back, scoring five runs in the last two innings, making it a 5-5 ball game after regulation. Both teams failed to score in the eighth inning, forcing the game to finish in a tie due to time-limit restrictions. West’s Ryan Gaughan gave up no earned runs through four innings of work. 

Game 5
West – 13
Southeast – 10

West jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first three innings of the game, capitalizing on walks and extra-base hits. Facing a 13-run deficit, Southeast came back to score 10 runs in the last three innings of the game. Nevertheless, the effort was not enough as West won 13-10. West’s Ray Toth went 2-3 with a double and three runs scored. 

Game 6
Metro – 2 
Central – 4 

In the last game of the day, Metro scored two runs in the first two innings, making it a two-run game after the bottom of the second. Metro’s Rob Iannetta kept the Central bats at bay, for the most part, giving up no runs through the first five innings of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, walks, hits, and a Metro error allowed Central to come back and score four runs. Central shut the door in the top of the seventh, winning their second game of the day 4-2. Matt Favazzo had a day for Metro, going 3-3 with a double and a run scored. Metro’s Rob Iannetta and Central’s Ryan Garner went the distance for their respective teams. 


Wednesday, July 7
Game 7
Central – 16 
Southeast – 5 

In the first game of Day Two, Southeast jumped out to an early 4-1 lead thanks to a Steve Nardelli double and a Ben Whitman RBI-single. Central dominated the rest of the game, outscoring Southeast 15-1. Central’s Will Parker went 3-3, reaching base four times, and the Central staff combined for 13 strikeouts through seven innings of work. 

Game 8
Northeast – 8 
West – 12 

The bats were on display during the matchup between West and Northeast. Both teams scored three runs apiece in the first inning. Northeast took a late lead into the seventh inning, winning 8-6. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Northeast walked the bases loaded, and West scratched two runs to tie it 8-8. With one out and bases loaded, West’s Michael Toth blasted a walk-off grand slam to deep left center, giving his team the win, 12-8 over Northeast. 


Game 9
Metro – 2
West – 6 

Both Metro and West stranded runners in scoring position multiple times at the beginning of the game. Both teams broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning; however, West scored six runs to take a commanding 6-1 lead. West cruised on to a 6-2 victory as Metro only responded with one run in the sixth inning. Raymond Toth had 3 RBI, thanks to a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning. 


Game 10
Coastal – 6 
Central – 5 

Central exploded for a four-run first inning thanks to a couple of walks and Tony Salvatelli’s two-run RBI single. Central would score one more in the third inning, but that is all they would get. After five innings, Central lead 5-2; however, Coastal went on to scratch three runs in the sixth to knot the game at 5-5. Neither team scored in the seventh, leading to extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Coastal took advantage of an infield error and scratched a run to take a one-run lead. Central went down in order in the eighth inning as Coastal hung on to win 6-5. 


Game 11
Northeast – 5 
Coastal – 12 

Coastal Erupted for 10 runs in the first three innings leading Northeast 10-0. Nolan Deandrade set the tone early as he hit a bases-clearing double in the first inning. Down 12-0 in the sixth inning, Northeast found momentum and scratched five runs across. Nevertheless, the effort was not enough as Coastal beat Northeast 12-5 in six innings due to time restrictions. Coastal had 13 hits on the day. 


Game 12
Southeast – 1
Metro – 10 

Southeast took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. That didn’t discourage Metro as they responded with 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning, scoring off seven walks and three base hits. After the first inning, both teams played great defense behind excellent pitching, as neither team scored for the rest of the day. Metro went on to win 10-1. Metro’s Gavin Donahue went 2-2 with a bases-clearing triple. 

Thursday, July 8
Game 13
Northeast – 5 
Metro – 2 
In the first matchup of the last day, Both Metro and Northeast scored one run apiece in the first inning. Northeast went on to cross four more runs in the next two innings to take a commanding 5-1 run lead after three innings. However, Metro wasn’t out of the game as Gavin Donahue blasted a solo home run over the Green Monster to make it 5-2 in the sixth. Northeast found themselves in a jam in the bottom of the seventh but managed to get the last two batters out to seal the victory 5-2. 


Game 14 
Coastal – 18 
Southeast – 4

Southeast’s defense flailed in the early portion of the game, allowing Coastal to cruise to an easy 18-4 win. Coastal’s Raymond McNaught and Nolan Deandrade lead the offense with two hits apiece. Coastal’s defense was on full display, turning two double plays and recording 19 of the 21 outs. 

Game 15
West – 2
Central – 5 

The final game was the perfect match-up to close out the showcase. At this point, West was in first place with a 3-0-1 record. Central was in second place with a 3-1 record. The winner of this game wins the gold medal. In the first inning, West threatened to score early but stranded two on base. Next, Central’s Will Parker walked up to the plate and did what he does best, sending a lead-off blast over the green monster to give Central an early 1-0 lead. Central scored one more run to make it 2-0 thanks to a Matt Kustigan RBI single. Down 3-0 in the top of the third, West scored two runs to cut the lead down to one. Central responded in the third inning and tacked one more in the sixth inning to cruise to a 5-2 win and a first-place finish in the Bay State Games Baseball Showcase.

WOBURN – Bay State Games is excited to announce a new partnership with Mass Youth Soccer. Bay State Games Boys and Girls Soccer has a long history of showcasing some of the best high school players in Massachusetts in an event well attended by college coaches from dozens of New England area schools. Many high school coaches across the state have supported Bay State Games by volunteering to serve as team coaches or providing their players with information on the competition. The partnership will help ensure that all high school players and coaches across Massachusetts are aware of the valuable opportunities available through the Bay State Games soccer competition and the outstanding programs provided by Mass Youth Soccer including District. This also allows Bay State Games and Mass Youth Soccer to coordinate their event schedules to avoid conflicts and allow players to be part of both the events. "We are pleased to collaborate with the Mass Youth Soccer Association and coordinate our tournament schedules," said Kevin Cummings, Executive Director of the Bay State Games. "We hope that this collaboration will allow Massachusetts soccer athletes to participate in and reap the benefits of competing in both the Bay State Games Soccer Showcase and Mass Youth Soccer’s Districts Program." “Mass Youth Soccer is excited to collaborate with the Bay State Games and provide opportunities for athletes across the state to participate in exciting soccer programs and events through calendar alignment and shared communication,” said Rob Holliday, Executive Director, Mass Youth Soccer. “We hope to expand the partnership with Bay State Games in future years!” Registration for the 2024 Bay State Games Boys and Girls Soccer Showcase competition is now open. The showcase tournament will take place July 11-13 at Game On in Fitchburg. Athletes can register to try out for one of six regional teams based on where they live and/or go to high school. The Stop & Shop Community Bag Program, which launched in May 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal to make a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work. Bay State Games was selected as the February beneficiary of the program by store leadership at the Stop & Shop located at 2 Elm Street in Woburn . The Bay State Games Jacket returns thanks to Marathon Sports

WOBURN, MA – Registration for the 42nd annual Bay State Summer Games is now open. The 2024 Summer Games will include thirty sports with competitions from May 11 – July 27 at venues throughout eastern and central Massachusetts including Game On in Fitchburg, Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Union Point Sports Complex in Weymouth, and North Star Ice Sports in Westborough. Bay State Games participants range in age from 5 to over age 75 and represent more than 300 Massachusetts communities as well as surrounding New England States in some sports. From grassroots participants to accomplished amateur athletes, the Bay State Games provide opportunities for the athlete in all of us. Seven high school showcase sports will take place for a variety of sports, including baseball, basketball, field hockey, ice hockey, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Athletes currently in grade 8-11 who live or go to school in Massachusetts are eligible to attend regional tryouts during the month of June. These tryouts will determine teams representing the various regions of the Commonwealth that will compete against each other in July. Check each sport page for specific eligibility requirements. The Summer Games include a wide variety of individual sports including swimming, track & field, figure skating, pickleball, wrestling, weightlifting, badminton, and more. These sports are open to a wide range of ages and skill levels from youth participants to masters-aged athletes. Adaptive sport divisions in archery, swimming, and track & field are offered, as well. Bay State Games also organizes tournaments for pre-existing teams in rugby, and 6v6 field hockey. Returning in 2024, Table Tennis will take place on June 1 at PingPod in Boston after a 5-year hiatus from the Summer Games sport lineup. New venues include Babson College , which will host the Girls Basketball Showcase, and NorthStar Ice Sports , which will host Figure Skating and the Girls Ice Hockey Showcase. Game On in Fitchburg will serve as a hub venue for eight sports. Bay State Games expects 1,500 athletes and their families to attend competitions at Game On during the second week of July. Bay State Games is pleased to announce a new partnership with Marathon Sports to provide athletes, officials, and volunteers with a special, traditional Bay State Games gift. Details will be released later in March. “We are excited to present the 2024 version of the Bay State Summer Games where Massachusetts amateur athletes of all ages and abilities can have their ‘Time to Shine,’” said Kevin Cummings, Executive Director of the Bay State Games. “This year will feature the addition of table tennis and ultimate as well as several new host venues including Babson College in Wellesley, Howard Park and Maplewood Park in Malden and NorthStar Ice Sports in Westborough. WOBURN (November 20, 2023) – The Bay State Games has selected six statewide scholarship recipients for the 2023 Future Leaders Scholarship Program. These student-athletes were selected from a large applicant pool after a process that included committee reviews of all applications and virtual interviews with selected applicants. These future leaders were selected based on their achievements and involvement in academics, community service, athletics, and leadership roles. The Bay State Games Future Leaders Scholarship program was established in 1989 and has since distributed nearly $400,000 in financial aid. Each of these high school seniors will receive a $1,000 scholarship. “Since its inception in 1989, the Future Leaders Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding high school students that excel in the classroom, in the community and on the field of play,” said Kevin Cummings, Executive Director of the Bay State Games. “We are proud that this program has provided nearly $400,000 in aid to support the continuing education of these well deserving student-athletes that represent all regions of Massachusetts and over 25 different sports.” This year’s six scholarship recipients are:

As an Official Charity, Bay State Games is offering runners the opportunity to participate as an official entrant in the 2024 Boston Marathon®. The 128th running of the 128th Boston Marathon® presented by Bank of America will take place on Monday, April 15, 2024.  The Bay State Games Charity Team gives runners the opportunity to compete in one of the world's most famous marathons and achieve their athletic goals while raising funds that go directly toward Bay State Games programming. These funds are essential to allow the Bay State Games to continue its mission of producing quality recreational, health, and educational programming for Massachusetts citizens of all ages and abilities. “For over 40 years, Bay State Games has impacted hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts athletes of all ages and abilities through its recreation, education, and personal development programs,” said Bay State Games Executive Director, Kevin Cummings. “Being selected to become a member of the Bank of America Boston Marathon® Official Charity Program will not only raise important funds that will support Bay State Games initiatives but will also provide our athletic minded constituents with an opportunity to participate in the most prestigious marathon in the world.” Team members will receive several amenities including a team singlet and Bay State Games clothing, as well as training and fundraising support.
