The Opening Ceremonies were at Boston City Hall Plaza on Thursday, July 12, 2001 with Tom Caron of NESN serving as the Master of Ceremonies. 2001 was also the first year of the BSG Hall of Fame. The first class of inductees were Charlie Butterfield (track & field commissioner), Rob Garon (swimming commissioner) and Melissa Mulloy-Mecozzi (shooting, 2000 Olympian).
It's been 21 years and with the 40th Summer Games now complete, we look forward to 20 more years.
