BSG 40 - 1998 Top Shots
The 1998 Summer Games took place July 16-26 in and around Boston. The 1998 Summer Games featured 23 sports, including Girls Ice Hockey for the first time. Of some 10,000 athletes who tried out, approximately 5,000 athletes were selected to compete in the finals across all sports.
The Opening Ceremonies took place at the Fleet Center (now TD Garden) on July 16. Bob Lobel of WBZ and Ralphie Marino of JAM'N 94.5 served as emcees and guest speakers included Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe, AJ Mleczko of the 1998 US Women's Olympic Ice Hockey team that won the gold medal, and Ben Smith, Head Coach of the 1998 Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Team.
Pictured below (top row, third from the left) is also the ceremony celebrating the 1998 Future Leaders Scholarship winners at Fenway Park.
