BSG 40 - The First Summer Games (1982)
For this last post, we are looking back at how it all started in 1982. A few weeks ago, we heard from Dave McGillivary about how Bay State Games started, but we didn't dive into the first "Sports Fest." The archives are limited, but from what we can gather from some film strips, the main event was basketball. For the first several years of Bay State Games, BSG Basketball was THE tournament to play in. The top players from across the state (of all ages) would play.
The first Bay State Games also had weightlifting and track and field. If you look closely at some of the pictures below, you can see some of the top shots captured on film. The opening ceremonies are also captured with the lighting and presentation of the torch.
